Lifestyle: Karaoke

Another chapter of the series Lifestyle, we talk about KARAOKE.

Let's study the origin of the word: two terms, KARA= without/blank and OKE= short for okestra. Then, the meaning is obvious.

Karaoke in the Japanese culture is a must. The places dedicated to karaoke, where one goes to destroy one's own vocal cords and often the reputation as well, are generally entire buildings. they are recognized by the enormous neon light put vertical-wise along the facade, with rooms for singing starting from the first and anding to the last floor, well equipped with air conditioning systems. Each room comes with a sound system boost, a TV and a controller used to skip the songs or modify various settings. The catalog where the songs available are listed is huge and you select the songs you want to sing by typing on a sort of pad the code of that song.

Basically people go to karaoke in groups - but it's not rare to find also some fanatics who go there alone, maybe also during the day hours, maybe to make practice - then they occupy one of the rooms and start reading the "liber maximo" to select the songs and creating the playlist for the night. there are also some karaoke places where you can test your goodness, as a computer assign a score to your performance, and the pacific race for the best squeal!

In the meanwhile drinks are ordered, and one drinks al lot, because usually the fee includes an all-you-can-drink, and we know singing gets thirsty, and the more one drinks, the better the performances are...applause!
