Valentine's and White Day

Anche in Giappone, come ormai penso accade anche nella più remota repubblica delle banane che si conosca, il giorno di san valentino è il giorno degli innamorati.

Non c'è bisogno di dire che le vetrine dei negozi, i banconi dei supermercati e qualsiasi altra superficie esponibile sono stracolme di idee regalo. Il regalo che va per la maggiore però è il cioccolatino: in confezioni da uno o centomila praline, decorato o no, aromatizzato o no, preparato personalmente o acquistato che sia, spopola.

Eppure qui lo scambio di doni tra gli amati non avviene in contemporanea, e difatti il 14 febbraio solo le ragazze si adoperano a trovare il regalo perfetto, poi il momento per i ragazzi di restituire il dono sarà il 14 marzo, per il cosiddetto white day.

Inoltre, distinguibili dalla cifra spesa per essi, esistono diversi generi di regali: c'è il regalo per l'amato e il regalo per i colleghi, ovvero un modo simbolico di promuovere e mantenere buoni rapporti di lavoro.

Ragion per cui, trovandomi in un posto dove chi rispetta le tradizioni campa cent'anni, anche io, di buona volontà, mi sono adoperata e ho comprato, assieme alle altre colleghe, i cioccolatini per capi e colleghi...si dice che poi questo pensiero, seppur tra colleghi, verrà ricambiato il mese successivo....perciò aspetto di vedere cosa accadrà.

In Japan, too, like in the most remote banana republic one can know, Valentine's day is the day for people in love. No need to say that here all show windows, shelves in the department stores,and any other exposable surfaces are overloaded with gifts and presents.

The most popular is chocolate: it comes in either one piece or hundred pieces boxes, either simple design or complex one, either flavoured or not, either home made or not, it is sold out.

Though, here, the gifts exchange doesn't happen at the same time. Indeed, on February 14 the girls only make efforts to find the perfect present, and only one month after, March 14, the guys on the White Day will give back the present.

In addition, price serves as a marker, different types of gift exist: there's the gift for the lover and the gift for the colleagues, this last one being a symbolic way to promote and maintain good relationship with coworkers.

So, living in a place where the respect for traditions is welcome, together with the other girls of the group I bought chocolate candies for boss and colleagues. They say that this thought will be given back also from the colleagues the next month..so I am waiting now to see what happens.
