Sicilia pensieri e sole

*******************************

Again off to Sicily, and finally in summer, to be able to taste the good granita and to let the sun hit hard while comfortably laid down on the beach!

By the time I landed, thanks to my light baggage (only a backpack and a little handbag so that Stefania goes pale when she sees me), I am on the road to fill my lungs of sea breeze and my eyes of the breathtaking view of the Sicilian coast stretching from Catania to Taormina. My company and guide, and also faithful coffee breaks mate at the university, takes me wherever I ask to go. The walks along the tiny streets of the town of Taormina, which asks too much to its inhabitants because of tourism, the visit to the ancient roman theatre, the dinner with the view of the Mediterranean together with a real and sincere friend make me realize how much I missed my land, my people.

The two weeks with family are spent in chatting with relatives, their requests of "come back soon", "why don't you stay more?", good food and the few left but dear friends. Many hours of sea and tan, many kilometers by car, a lot of rest.

This is the time to be glad to see parents keeping theirselves busy and in facts I didn't avoid to attend dance and singing shows which my dears revealed themselves to be lovers and fond of.

Tho, from one side one is happy to see again people after ages, is nice again to go out with old friends, all relations and equilibria broken because of the distance are restored. But on the other side it's sad to realize that time passes for everyone, nephews and niece grow up, the others grow older, there's who forgets who has gone away to hunt for fortune, there's who starts a family. And at one point I am comparing the values we've been taught and the physical bonds that keep people close against dreams and expectations for a life that wants to be lived at the top.

I ask myself if it's better stay with our beloved people and perhaps get content with a normal but solid, full of love life or rather better to be selfish, be aware that we're mortal and destined to a end but carrying dreams bigger than ourselves that push us to break the doors of the unexpected. And yet, a path started, the temptation to proceed and see what happens is strong, and it's all about balancing guilt and personal satisfaction.

Now, doing all this complicated reasoning, time has flown and I have to leave, but not without a bunch of photos to refresh my memories till the next visit.
