Yoko&Co in Sicily

**************************

It really seems that the trend for my Sicilian vacation has become to have international guests visiting while I am there...

This time I offered Yoko and daughter, on vacation to Italy from Japan, to come over to Sicily. Being very busy with appointments and dates with friends, I had to fit their arrival into a meetings marathon: returning from Naples, my life long friend Santo is at Catania waiting for me and with him I meet the rest of the other life long friends Carmen, Valentina, Silvia and Peppe for a 'family' reunion. Night spent out, breakfast with granita rigorously at the waterfront in Stazzo, and then the two-day on-the-road tour can start. Fist very mandatory stop is Taormina, its main street, its souvenir shops, the roman theater. I think I have enough chanted the wonders of this pearl a lot of times, so I won't now. I just mention the fact that my guests appreciated the view and the beauty.

I didn't remember that in Giardini Naxos, along the seaside there's a lookout point with in the middle a statue of the goddess of victory (in Greek Nike). Also, I didn't know that from a precise spot along the seaside there's a stunning night view of the gulf and the town of Taormina on the mountain...
New day, new destination: Noto, South East Sicily, one of the most beautiful Baroque towns in Sicily, a "living book". It 's a stone garden where every corner is likely meet capitals, Baroque friezes, churches and aristocratic palaces. The city, recently honored by UNESCO title of "cultural patrimony of humanity", was the symbol of wealth and splendor during the Baroque Age in Sicily together with the cities of Catania, Siracusa, Caltagirone, Ragusa Ibla, Palazzolo Acreide, Modica....it would be too long to tell the history and the stories of my sun-scorched island, although it would be worth it. For whom wants to know more, I guess there's enough material on line.. Or, the other option is to come and visit me, so I have a good excuse too!

Going back onto the vacation, in Noto we take our time to stroll along the main road, which is itself an open air museum, where the spectacular city's cathedral is. Done with the touristic things, my guests have one wish only: sea. So I go for the over tested beach of Fontane Bianche, a few kilometers from there. We were lucky with the weather too, as it was cold till the end of April, but on that day we had pleasant climate and rising temperatures, so we went for a swim.
And for the first time I see Saki genuinely happy.

(Yoko,Saki,me and on top Tani)
