Caretta Odori-21 prevede ballerini che rappresentano nove paesi, che si esibiscono in 19 diversi stili di danza. Queste includono la Sansa Odori giapponese (tradizionale della prefettura di Iwate), belly dance, samba e flamenco.
Assieme alle performance c'e' un beer garden, niente di meglio, nelle bollenti sere estive, che fare un salto dopo il lavoro, sedersi ai grossi tavoli con una birra fresca in pugno e godersi lo spettacolo. Tra le altre cose Shiodome e' una delle mie aree preferite della città', in particolare Caretta, un edificio di 50 piani, interamente ricoperto in vetro, suggestivo e con una vista sulla baia e , dal lato opposto, sul centro di Tokyo che ha pochi rivali. Infatti, la tappa obbligata di ogni visita a Shiodome e' il giro in ascensore su fino all'ultimo piano, con la città che velocemente si espande davanti agli occhi, i grattacieli che sembrano farsi più piccoli e le lucine rosse lampeggianti sui tetti che sembrano tante lucciole infuocate.
Ventuno giorni, dal 1 al 21 agosto, che non sono poi tanti per godersi il beer garden, ma per una città in cui il concetto di sedersi all'aria aperta e cenare e bere fuori e' una cosa che si vede solo nei film, rappresentano comunque un lasso di tempo abbastanza ampio.
Ora, farsi 20KM di treno all'andata e 20 al ritorno, per 21 sere di fila, proprio non si può, seppure si gode della carrozza con aria condizionata. Ho così scelto, a discapito di altre, serate simbolo, magari preferendo una danza che non avevo mai visto prima dal vivo….via la samba, via le danze tipiche giapponesi che sono ormai cosa arcinota, via i balli di gruppi pop giapponesi. Certo, mi sono persa la belly dance e la lambada, ma posso recuperare in uno dei ristoranti etnici sparsi per la città o in altre occasioni.
Sola o in compagnia di care amiche, ho visitato il beer garden più di una volta, per soddisfare la mia curiosità verso altre culture.
A Okinawa, ad esempio, non avevo avuto l'occasione di assistere alla Eisa Odori, la danza più famosa dell'arcipelago che si balla a ritmo di tamburi e prevede una buona prestanza fisica e resistenza, essendo molto dinamica.
Avevo invece già assistito a uno show di danza hawaiana, pero, che volete, i movimenti dolci tipici della danza e le musiche che fanno venire in mente il mare calmo e cristallino sono un attrazione a cui non si può resistere.
Interessantissima la danza taitiana, che punta tutto sul movimento dei fianchi. E' una danza veramente ma veramente tribale, ballata al ritmo dei tamburi, e anch'essa può essere movimentata, ma non al punto da far mancare il fiato.
C'e' ancora un fine settimana per approfittare e fare un giro a Shiodome, il 21 si chiudono le danze con il flamenco. Chi può' vada, io quel giorno saro' già lontano lontano.

This month, those who drop by the Caretta Shiodome shopping complex will be treated to a world of dance, as the venue hosts the Shiohaku 2011 Caretta Odori-21.
Caretta Odori-21 features dancers representing nine countries performing 19 different kinds of dance. These include the Japanese Sansa Odori (a tradition from Iwate Prefecture), Egyptian belly dancing, Brazilian samba and Spanish flamenco.
Alongside the dance performances there is a beer garden, nothing better, in the summer nights, than swinging by after work, sit at the big tables with a cool beer in hand and enjoy the show. Among the other things, Shiodome is one of my favorite spots in town, Caretta building in particular, because with its 50 stories has got one of the best views of the bay and, on the opposite side, of Tokyo. The must-do in Shiodome is indeed a ride on the elevator up to the last floor, while the town expands before the eyes, the buildings seem to grow smaller and the red flashing lights on top of other buildings look like fireflies.
Twenty one days, from 1st to 21st in August, which are indeed not so many to enjoy the beer garden, but for a town where the concept of sitting in the open and dine outside is something one can only see in movies, they represent anyway a wide time frame.
Now, sitting on a train for 20KM one-way, for 21 nights is not really possible, although the joy of sitting in a air conditioned car is appealing. Then I chose, discarding some others, symbolic evenings, preferring some dance I have yet not seen live….skip samba, skip the typical but well known Japanese dances, skip the J-pop dance. Sure, I missed belly dance and lambada, among those, but I can always go and see a show in one of the many ethnic restaurants some other time.
Alone or with girl friends, I visited the beer garden more than once, also to satisfy my curiosity towards other cultures.
In Okinawa, for instance, I didn't have the chance to see the Eisa Odori, the most famous dance in the archipelago, which is danced on drums beats and it requires enough stamina, being very dynamic.
I had seen a Hawaiian dance before, actually, but I mean, the moves of the dance and the music recall the calm and crystal sea waters and I couldn't resist.
The Tahitian dane was very interesting, all about hips. It's really really tribal dance, also with drums, and it can be dynamic too, but never close to leave you breathless.
There is one more weekend to go and show up at Shiodome, on the 21st the closure dance is flamenco. Who can go, I will already be far far away on that day.
