Come si può non essere di buon umore quando ci si sveglia un sabato o una domenica mattina di dicembre, chiara, limpida, tiepida, senza una nuvola in cielo, con il sole che cerca di infilarsi tra le tende! Come si può non aver voglia di farsi inondare di luce al calduccio del proprio letto, pigri, assonnacchiati ma con la prospettiva di una colazione abbondante e di una passeggiata all'aria aperta!
Per poco non ho aperto la sdraio in balcone in questi giorni…del resto vuoi mettere la goduria nel fare colazione all'aperto con pancake, pane caldo, marmellata, yogurt e quella bella tazza di caffè italiano che completa il tutto? Ho desistito solo perché non ho un tavolo abbastanza grande per il balcone.
Nei mesi in cui le ore di luce in un giorno si contano su due mani fa bene stare in giro il più possibile, e per fortuna non manca come tenersi occupati. Va benissimo una semplice passeggiata lungo il fiume, ad esempio, o una visita al tempio, un giro verso la baia per scoprire i mercatini di Natale come quello a Aka Renga, o anche andare a zonzo per la città….tra una pista di pattinaggio, un giro di shopping, un caffè con amici guardando al cielo e al mare non ci sono scuse contro il benessere psicofisico.
Poi, siamo in zona Natale, e se si può fare scorta di ottimismo e buon umore e' meglio…noi expat lontano da casa soffriamo un po' quando arriva questo periodo dell'anno.
Fervono i preparativi per i due grandi appuntamenti del mese: il pranzo o la cena di Natale, e san Silvestro. Personalmente non ho grandi piani, soprattutto per l'ultimo giorno dell'anno. Sono un po' spaventata dagli eventi grossi così. Ma a Natale, bisogna fare qualcosa il giorno di Natale. E infatti, il tradizionale appuntamento a casa Marina non si fa attendere neanche quest'anno, con un mix di invitati promettente e con una cucina abbastanza fusion, mai come stavolta…un pizzico di Giappone, un po' di Sudamerica e un tocco di Sicilia, così da fondere in uno le tre grandi culture che hanno imparato a convivere dentro di me.

Who says good weather doesn't influence people's mood, obviously has never seen a sunny day.
How could one not be happy when wakes up on a Saturday or a Sunday in December, a clear, clean, warm, cloudless morning with the sun trying to sneak through the curtains! How could one not be wishing to stay in a warm bed, lazy, sleepy, being inundated by sunlight, but with a huge breakfast in plan, and a walk outside afterwards!
I had almost unfolded my chair on the balcony in these days…and I mean, is there any better luxury than having breakfast outside, pancakes, warm bread, jam, yogurt, and that Italian coffee to complete the picture?I refrained only because I don't have a big enough table to put on the balcony.
In these months when the hours of sunlight can be counted in two hands, staying out as much as one can is good, and fortunately there's plenty of stuff to be busy with. Already enough a simple stroll along the river, for instance, or a visit to the temple, or a short trip to the bay to discover the Christmas markets like at Aka Renga, or even just bubbling around the city….a skate ring here, a round of shopping there, a coffee with friends looking at the sky and the sea..there's no excuse against wellness.
Also, we're around Christmas zone, and if one can stock up in optimism, then it's better to do so…we expat, away from home in this time of the year, tend to suffer a bit.
Delirium also to get ready for this month's two big appointments: Christmas lunch/dinner and NYE. Personally I don't have big plans, especially for the last day of the year…I am a bit scared and overwhelmed by such big events. But on Christmas…I must do something on Christmas. And so, this year too, the appointment at Marina's is on, with a promising mix of invitees and a quite fusion of a dinner, never like this one before…a bit of Japan, a bit of South America and a bit of Sicily so to merge in one the three cultures living together inside me.
