Another MBSJ...in Fukuoka

Ah, no, il quarto giorno grazie a Dio e' solo meta'!

A CASA.

*************

This year's MBSJ (Molecular Biology Society of Japan) edition was held in Fukuoka, very nice city in Kyushu island, warm in weather and in people's heart.

Although after the previous experience in Yokohama I had decided not to join another such conference again, at the perspective of going back to this city I confess I changed my mind...so here I am, having a break from this long and massive scientific event to share my thoughts (and I would gladly share the headache and backache too!). I now almost regret my final decision, as this has been a long tough week.

I am more tired every day, as I do a lot of walking: get to the site form the hotel, attend the symposia, get lunch, fight the urge to fall asleep on the spot, curse in 5 languages for the lack of decent coffee, start walking through the ~800 posters with your backpack hanging on your shoulder the whole time, walk back to the city in the cold evening, release the tension in front of local food and beer, crash in bed and pass out. Repeat for 4 days....
Ah, nope, the fourth day is half a day only, thank God!

The venue for the conference is by the bay, nice area with a few sights, and the whole conference is divided between two buildings: one where the posters and the exhibitors are (the Messe) and one where all seminars and talks take place (the Conference Center). We go back and forth between the two, usually in the morning/early afternoon we go for the talks and in the evening we go for the poster sessions.
I think though this conference is too short for the amount of stuff that is presented here...we are spending 11hr here, or anyway most of these 11 hours. It would have been better to make it a few days longer but every day schedule shorter.
A lot of interesting topics are touched, a lot of people join the conference every time, and the presence of international speakers increases...that is good for this event as being a domestic molecular biology conference. There should be done some extra effort on the English speaking skills of most Japanese presenters, but they improve each time.

We will soon wrap up everything and we will be ready to enjoy the city for the afternoon (or for the weekend the luckier ones), pick up our luggage and head back home. HOME.

    1. Hey, Simone!
